As the Outstanding Engineering Employee of the Year, Luis puts his love for hospitality into action every day with a generous, big heart and a “whatever it takes” mindset. He has a strong commitment to guest satisfaction with a warm and welcoming attitude toward visitors and team members. Additionally, Luis has never called in sick.

To improve his skillsets, Luis has taken courses to help him grow in the engineering department, including general electrical training, plumbing, and general repair skills. He is known to pitch in to assist other departments, including houseman responsibilities, assisting the laundry department, setting up meeting rooms, serving as an IT technician, and even cleaning rooms to help room attendants.

On one occasion, a Tampa family displaced by Hurricane Helene was staying at the hotel when they lost their cat. Luis was determined to find the cat and searched throughout the property for two days until he located it, cheering up the family’s daughter.

Moreover, when a coworker who was undergoing chemotherapy had collapsed in the hotel hallway, Luis carried her to a room where paramedics could treat her in a private setting and later gave her rides to and from chemotherapy appointments.

Additionally, Luis has volunteered his time to support Toys for Tots, the American Red Cross, and Second Harvest Food Bank. It is this spirit of humble service to guests and the ability to inspire coworkers that has earned him the nickname “Captain Hospitality.”
