First-Ever Public Safety Summit is a Success
CFHLA is thrilled to share that our first-ever Public Safety and Security Summit, in partnership with Orange County Public Schools, was a major success during October. This pilot program for Orange County students showed them firsthand what goes on behind the scenes, while safety and security teams work to protect guests at our Central Florida hotels and resorts.
The CFHLA Public Safety Summit was held at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando. CFHLA extends a special thanks to the resort's Mark Cartotto, Complex Director of Security and Risk Management, and Managing Director Amaury Piedra for graciously hosting the event.
More than 80 students enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the Caribe Royale security office, where team members monitor hundreds of surveillance cameras to scan for signs of trouble.
Students learned about Security Technology, Emergency Preparedness and Recovery, Risk management, De-escalation, Situational Awareness, and careers to consider in the field.
CFHLA, Orange County Public School leaders and the Safety and Security Council Members believe this pilot program offered great insights to our local students. We hope to build upon this program in the coming months.
CFHLA Talks TDT Revenue with Orange County Clerk of Courts
On Wednesday, October 16th, the CFHLA Governmental Affairs Committee held its monthly committee meeting at the Mall at Millenia, (Thank you, Kevin Cedick). Our guest speaker was Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell.
The Committee provided Clerk Russell with an update on the strong economic impact the hospitality and tourism industry provides to our Central Florida economy, including jobs and significant tax revenue. Members of the Committee also outlined the initiatives our CFHLA partners are taking to attract young workers into our industry.
Clerk Russell also explained she believes Tourist Development Tax revenues should continue to be used as they were originally allocated. She also said there should be more regulation of short-term rental companies in the future.
